§ 13-34. Lawfully detained, impounded, abandoned, derelict, junk property, etc.—Seizure, impounding and storage.

  • The police department may seize, impound and/or store or cause to be seized, impounded and/or stored any vehicle, bicycle, or other personal property when the same:

    (1)

    Appears to be abandoned on any street or highway or other public place of the city;

    (2)

    Is stolen property and the owner cannot be promptly found who claims the same;

    (3)

    Is illegally parked on any street or highway, other than a parking meter or overtime violation in a designated parking space;

    (4)

    Is parked on the streets at night in violation of the ordinances of the city;

    (5)

    Is a derelict or junk vehicle or boat on any property except that where authorized by the provisions of section 13-32; or

    (6)

    Is subject to being lawfully detained for any other reason if the police chief elects to proceed on same under the provisions hereof.
